Construction can be a long, hard road but if your a designer like me that can see past a big mess and a heap of work its actually really fun. I would say that if you are the type of person that likes instant gratification and doesn’t want to introduce any unneeded stress into your life than don’t remodel or build a home. For those of you that love a good challenge and want things to be exactly how you imagine them, then go for it (but hire someone to help you). I love a good challenge and am very particular about the way I want things to look and feel, so of course (hence my career choice) I love interior design from the ground up. Being able to have a say over architecture, floor plans, exterior/interior finishes, appliances, heating, materials, etc…etc…etc is very empowering. The process at times can be difficult but most things in life that are worth anything are hard (relationships, cooking, exercise, a sport). If I wasn’t a designer myself I would absolutely hire someone to help me with everything and not just work with a contractor or architect alone. My job is to be the middle man between vendors and my clients, and to make sure that my clients vision is brought to life. I will give advice/direction where it is needed and do my best to make the process fun plus the end result is a great accumulation of collaborative style and good decisions.
Here are a few behind the scenes pictures I took while working on our Modern Mountain project in Lake Tahoe. Our next ground up project I promise to document way better but for now I thought this would be fun for you to see. Check out the finished project here in our portfolio.
